What is a Tri-Specific fit?
We will readily admit that there are many competent road bike fitters in the area, but we are not shy in our belief that no one understands, or conducts, tri-specific fits in Orange County better than we do. It's a bit arrogant, we suppose, but it's common to see the results of local triathlons dominated by our clients, who not only ride to the best bike splits, but also on to numerous podiums! A tri bike fits very differently than a road bike, or a Time Trial bike, for that matter. We work hard to maximize your position for the utmost in aerodynamic efficiency, power, and comfort. You'll not only be provided a fit optimized for triathlon, but you'll be educated as to why you've been fit the way you have, and will walk away with a better understanding of how to make the most of your bike leg for a better overall performance and placement in your next triathlon.
What is F.I.S.T.?
Our tri-specific fits are conducted using the F.I.S.T. (Fit Insititure SlowTwitch) method, and we are F.I.S.T. certified. We were one of the first adopters of the F.I.S.T method in the area; it's since become very popular, and we would agree with anyone who chooses to use it to conduct a comprehensive triathlon fit. What is F.I.S.T.? It's a methodology originally developed by the father of the modern tri position, Dan Empfield, original owner of Quintana Roo, developer of the tri-specific wetsuit, and owner of the most popular tri web site in the world, Slowtwitch.com. F.I.S.T. is about the athlete self-choosing their position within certain ranges under the guidance of the fitter. It's a fascinating means of fitting a tri bike as you learn that your body will tell you what the correct position is - you just have to learn to listen! The fitter plays an important role in the process: he/she must know how to communicate well with the athlete, properly utilize available technology for measurement (Mr. Empfiled also uses Retul for his personal fittings), and educate the athlete about fit and equipment, including choosing a bike with the appropriate geometry for their riding style and chosen position.
Tri-optimized fitting means placing the athlete in an efficient & aerodynamic position that is not only good for the bike leg, but for the entire event. It's about making our client a better triathlete, not just a better cyclist. You Tr-Specific Fit includes the following:
